Mykonos Restaurant

Mykonos Restaurant

The greek staple Mykronos has been around for a quarter century and their food is as good as you'll find in Astoria, or Athens for that matter. Their Greek lemon soup has chicken in it and is completely hearty and comforting. You may be tired of all the Cuban places right now but they just have so many delicious soups we can't help ourselves. And you can't really get far in Miami without hitting a Havana outpost. Casa Romeu has great soup including sopa de platano and asopada de langosta, and they also give you one free mojito with every meal. added on 2007-06-04

Mr. Chu's has some of the tastiest dim sum in the city. We especially love their pork buns and chicken feet, but their soups are warm, savory, and a perfect snack. Try the shrimp wonton or the double boiled soup of the day. Mr. Chu's has some of the tastiest dim sum in the city. Gridskipper's all time favorite soup, especially when we are feeling sick, is warm thick soba. The salty broth with those soft noodles just warms us up. In Miami the place for tasty soba, along with tasty everything else, is Hiro's Yakka San. A true local favorite, Hiro's confounds diners by keeping up their quality while offering so many dishes. Their zaru soba is great,… but if you're looking for adventure, they also have tongue stew added on 2007-06-04

Here we have another Cuban place with excellent soup but this time in South Beach. Their fish soup is delicious and made with rice. Despite Memphis' considerable musical tourism draws (Graceland, Sun Records, Stax Records, the Isaac Hayes Nightclub), record buying is a bit short on the ground in town. Yes, there are the Beale Street tourist traps but sometimes you just need something a bit more obscure. Shangri-La Records buys, sells, and trades a variety of music on cd, lp, and 45s, as well as various music memorabilia. added on 2007-06-02

Despite Memphis' considerable musical tourism draws (Graceland, Sun Records, Stax Records, the Isaac Hayes Nightclub), record buying is a bit short on the ground in town. However, we would like to suggest the gift store at Sun Records—which sells an extensive selection of CDs at a fair price, with the added bonus of cute rockabilly girls behind the counter. added on 2007-06-02

Barney Frank is Massachusetts's charismatic, openly gay and reliably liberal congressman/Rush Limbaugh foil supreme. He is also one hell of a travel guide. The Boston Globe just went on a tour of Barney Frank's Washington. One of Frank's favorites? Mr. Henry's Capital Hill. Roberta Flack was discovered at this cozy Capitol Hill pub, and live music is still on the menu. The upstairs concert hall is non-smoking during performances. added on 2007-06-02

The historic outdoor market is bustling all mornings but is especially exciting on Saturdays at its busiest. Both pro and amateur chefs crowd into the market to buy produce, artisanal cheeses, and meats. Admire all the fresh goodies and get yourself a snack for later. added on 2007-06-02

Joe Allen's is known for many famous dishes not least of them vegetable centric. However, they serve a really solid vegetable stew. It's great if you need somewhere to take your vegetarian date while you have a burger or if you want to start cutting out all that red meat from your diet. We've all had cold tomato gazpacho with mixed results, but the cold white gazpacho at Michy's never fails. It is a creamy garlicky almond soup poured over marcona almonds, white grapes, and cucumbers. It's a great starter and an introduction to the acclaimed Mediterranean joint's other simple yet innovative dishes. Sienna Miller obviously did not visit the "Hollywood Bowl" room or engage in "Pizza, Pop & Bowling" at Arsenal Bowling Lanes in Pittsburgh. I'm guessing she missed Karaoke Night and Country Night as well, or she wouldn't have given the city her clever intestinally-derived appellation. From the looks of the decrepit shoes, nothing much has changed from when I took bowling lessons here, every Tuesday afternoon as a kid. But, as someone who hadn't reached double digits in years yet, I missed out on Arsenal's "programming," not counting one of my birthday parties held here. Games will run you a whopping $3.25 before 6pm, and after that, $3.65. The best deal by far is College Night, where games are 50 cents as are drafts. Talk about a cheap date! Valentine's Day anyone? Hopefully you're lucky like me and have a never expiring college ID to get you in. There are many "all you can bowl" specials, including Karaoke night. However, I cannot vouch for this from personal experience, but the website's description of "Tito coaxing you to step and sing all night" is intriguing. added on 2007-06-01
