I always think of Boston as a little city or big town, and maybe its population of 600,000 has something to do with that assumption. But, after all the complaining about everything in Boston closing prematurely -- particularly their transit system -- that big New England town still has the best pool hall I've ever visited: Big City. As quoted by Boston Pool Halls, Big City's "pool facilities are unsurpassable." There are 21 championship-sized tables, 1950s police station decor, and one beautiful private room with leather couches and a table. I passed over the impressive and eclectic draft selection (over 100) for my regular Killian's, and still the bartender asked if I wanted to add an orange slice (a delectably girly addition). Food ranges from a variety of pizzas to Clams Casino (!) to Thai chicken sticks. The hourly table prices are fair, and my only complaint is that the "full bar" does not include gin. What?!? Only sloe gin is available, and if you are a gin snob like myself, you know that sloe gin is not technically gin at all. Despite the exclusion, Big City trumps a lot of Boston's pool halls and everyone knows it, so expect crowds. Go puzzle over the beer selection and menu while you wait for a table. added on 2007-05-03

big city...

It can be scary exposing your pasty albino-fish skin to the world in the first few weeks of spring, and though we don't recommend extensive tanning at salons, it's not so bad to get a good base going. Perfect Tan offers good rates, 19 tanning beds so you'll never have to wait, and spray tanning for those who aren't so into skin cancer. added on 2007-04-27
